Empowering Women in Business: Julie Becker, CEO , Inspires at Paperjam+Delano Cocktail Event

The Paperjam+Delano Club Entrepreneur & CEO Cocktail event held on the 9th of February 2023 was a celebration of entrepreneurial spirit, leadership, and success. It was an inspiring evening filled with discussions, knowledge-sharing, and networking opportunities.

The event was attended by LuxRelo, who was represented by their co-founders Stéphane Compain and Sandrine Lapointe

We were thrilled by the presence of Julie Becker, the CEO of the Bourse de Luxembourg who was interviewed by Benoit Theunisse from Maison Moderne. Julie was the winner of the Top 100 Paperjam most influential economic decision-makers in Luxembourg in 2022.

Julie Becker joined the Luxembourg Stock Exchange in 2013. which is launching, three years later, the Luxembourg Green Exchange (LGX), the first platform for the listing of sustainable securities, in response to the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. A platform that has become increasingly popular and a reference at the international level.

During the interview, she spoke about the importance of women in businesses and how she is proud to inspire them.

She lives by the quote, "If you have the courage to start, you have the courage to succeed."

Luxembourg is a pioneer in green finance, and Julie talked about on of the Luxembourg challenge: the societal and environmental impact that is demanded by the youth. They want to adhere to the values of society, and CEO's must keep this in mind to attract and retain talent.

She shared her great experience with the New York firefighters while doing while doing a training there and how communication must be effective and simple, which is not always easy.

The notion of sponsorship was also discussed as being crucial in female leadership. A leader who chooses a colleague and gives them the confidence to make choices and have confidence in themselves is a valuable asset to any organization.

Julie spoke about the role of the Luxembourg stock exchange, which has a global reach, and promotes capital flow, investments, and provides information. The international stock exchange serves 100 issuers and 70 countries in the world raise funds through it. The Green exchange was also discussed, which aims to direct capital towards sustainable development projects, especially in developing countries. Sustainable investments perform better and are more stable than traditional investments, mainly because they are based on a long-term approach. Sustainable finance is unavoidable and a growth vector.

The Green exchange lists 3200 financial values and 850 billion projects.

Gender finance was also a topic of discussion. The Bourse de Luxembourg has signed an agreement with the United Nations Women to facilitate access to finance for women. Gender bonds will be used to ensure that projects will benefit women and the stock exchange wants to make them more visible to investors.

Julie emphasized the importance of her five principles in leadership:

1️⃣ Communicating well,

2️⃣ Rethinking your hypotheses,

3️⃣ Listening to the team,

4️⃣ Having a backup plan,

4️⃣ Trusting your gut.

The evening was a testament to the incredible impact that women are having in the world of finance, business, and leadership. Female leadership was described as being more listening, more consensual, and more attentive, which does not prevent them from making decisions. But Julie emphasized that generalizations should be avoided.

In conclusion, the Paperjam+Delano Club Entrepreneur & CEO Cocktail event was an inspiring evening that celebrated the achievements of women in finance, business, and leadership. #PaperjamDelanoClub #PaperjamLuxembourg #JulieBecker #BoursedeLuxembourg #WomenLeadership
